Art Deco History

History

Art Deco styled rugs were first created and designed by Walter Nichols in the 1920s. Nichols intertwines vivid colors with minimal Chinese symbols to bring a modern style to the traditional looking rugs. The handcrafted wool rugs were skein dyed to bring a pop of color giving it a contemporary and new look. Nichols's unique style made him stand out by creating a new arrangement of color schemes which was greatly appreciated by many people due to the new style he created. This brought a lot of attention from European and North American interior designers because it built a colorful environment for many homes. Chinese Art Deco rugs are mostly known as Nichols rugs due to his important presence in the industry.
